This project involved having to create an original main character and enemy character to display on a game level. The purpose of the level and the relationship between the main character and enemy character had to be clear. Both characters were to be animated with an idle, walking, and attack motion. In addition, an interactable box was added to demonstrate object collision. The characters then had to be imported into Unity with code that would make them interact. The game level I created involved a zombie apocalypse survivor navigating a park and a zombified park ranger that she had to “attack”.
In order to face this challenge, it was necessary to spend time navigating this new art platform. I started by sketching down ideas of what I wanted the characters and settings to look like. From there, I was able to draw a full-body traditionally drawn illustration. I was able to then take a picture of the drawing and line it digitally. I established a color palette for the character and digitally colored in each layer. Each moveable piece (i.e. elbows, wrists, knees, hair, etc.) was separated into layers that I would later animate. I repeated this process for the enemy character. The setting was accomplished in a similar way. The game required a script for movement and animation that was placed into Unity.
